New artwork has been released from DC Comics’Absolute Batman, the upcoming reboot which will put a new spin on the Caped Crusader and the rest of the DC Universe’s most iconic characters. Check it out!
The news of a DC Comics reboot has been swirling for quite some time. This isn’t the first time the publisher has attempted to revamp their universe, hoping to invigorate interest and boost sales. “The New 52” stands out as a prime example, though its reception was mixed.
This time around, the initiative is spearheaded by seasoned Batman writer, Scott Snyder, who is bringing his expertise back to the Dark Knight. However, “Absolute Comics” is a separate line from the main DC continuity, aiming for a similar but distinct approach to Marvel Comics’ Ultimate Universe.
The Ultimate Universe, in its earlier days, focused on retelling the origin stories of iconic characters like Spider-Man and the X-Men in a more contemporary setting, stripping away decades of complex continuity. The recent relaunch of this universe has been a huge success, introducing a world without superheroes for years, resulting in Peter Parker becoming Spider-Man in his 30s.
Marvel’s success with Ultimate Spider-Man has made a significant impact, especially considering DC Comics’ lagging sales compared to their competitor. With this in mind, the “Absolute” line of titles could be just what DC needs to turn the tide.
Today, Bleeding Cool has unveiled further details about Absolute Batman, accompanied by stunning new artwork from Nick Dragotta. The illustrations reveal a significant transformation of the character, most notably the replacement of his iconic cape with a flight suit.
“This is Batman as [an] underdog. Batman as [a] warrior,” the site explains. “That’s Absolute Batman, the new ongoing series by Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta. But it’s also a reflection of the Absolute Universe continuity as a whole.”
This new universe presents a different world, where Superman, Wonder Woman, and other iconic heroes are struggling for survival, facing a world far closer to our own.
Reports suggest that this hulking Bruce Wayne is no longer a billionaire, instead taking on the mantle of a “working class” Batman. This change in social standing compels him to adopt a distinct fighting style and rely on fewer high-tech gadgets. The Bat-symbol has also undergone a makeover, evolving into a piece of armor rather than the traditional bat-shaped logo.
“Nick’s art is a perfect fit,” Snyder is quoted as saying in the Absolute Batman preview set to be distributed at Comic-Con. “It’s grounded and gritty, but also dynamic and fresh. A bit dangerous and new to superhero readers, just like this Batman.”
The announcement of this new “Absolute” line of comics is expected to be unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con in a few weeks.

@HashTagSwagg – he saw Harry spotter and was desperate to bulk |

Bruce Wayne, heir to the McWayne fast-food empire, returns to Goth-ham City, the town his family helped grow. As he witnesses the deranged mentality of some of the towns criminals he decides to dress up in black, a slimming color, and takes on the vegan underworld of Gotham. With his 250kg heavy body he fights the likes of The Weightwatcher, Spinachface, Poison Smoothie as well as his arch nemisis The Dietician. Beware the night, for he is Fatman! |
lazlodaytona- 7/15/2024, 8:34 AM
@ProfessorWhy – Not only awful, but I’ve always hated Fat-Batman. Dark Knight Returns, Ben Affleck’s Bats, ect…. Batman should be strong but with a medium build and relying more on his cunningness. Not be a bouncer in NY dressed up for Halloween. |
The1st- 7/15/2024, 7:17 AM
@BobbyDrake – My thoughts exactly… What’s Bane gonna look like if this is Bruce? It looks like TDKR Batman decided to soak in a Lazarus pit. We’ll see, but I’m not really sold on this. |
lazlodaytona- 7/15/2024, 8:35 AM
@KennKathleen – all fat people saying they like this Bat’s look, well …. besides Ledger. he’s slim |
HashTagSwagg- 7/15/2024, 7:25 AM
Finally they ditched the cape sh1t, it just never worked for that character. Can’t wait for the Mcfarlane figure. |
SolarSoldier- 7/15/2024, 8:11 AM
@HashTagSwagg – A superhero based on a bat and a cape didn’t work for him. Right. Because a swirling cape in the night isn’t reminiscent of Dracula. Bats. Vampires. The cape worked for his creepiness in sneaking up on villains. |
TheVandalore- 7/15/2024, 7:26 AM
So, they put Tim Sale’s Batman’s head on Frank Miller’s Batman’s body… |
KronDonthe3rd- 7/15/2024, 7:56 AM
@TheVandalore – Josh wouldnt know what youre talking about. Otherwise, he would have mentioned it since its so obvious. But Josh is an NPC so…..yeah. |
ImBatman4realz- 7/15/2024, 8:41 AM
@KronDonthe3rd – lol that NPC comment cracked me up this morning! Well said 🤘🏻 |
lazlodaytona- 7/15/2024, 8:38 AM
@WEAPONXOXOXO – but with black eye-lash make-up smeared on his eyes. “HULK upset, but I am strong! Wait, HULK eyes am burning HULK now. Hulk can’t see …. or pee.” |
WhatIfRickJames- 7/15/2024, 8:12 AM
@KronDonthe3rd – such a weirdo comment. Calm down, have some breakfast then get out in the sun. The leftists can’t hurt you |
ItsNotForMeWahh- 7/15/2024, 8:36 AM
@KronDonthe3rd – Registered Republican shoots the Republican presidential nominee, F the leftists! |
ImBatman4realz- 7/15/2024, 8:47 AM
@ItsNotForMeWahh being registered means nothing. It simply means he: 1) never changed how he is registered, and/or 2) was a wolf in sheep’s clothing. The kid donated to progressive organizations. Trending Now — Benedict Cumberbatch’s Involvement in Avengers 5: What We Know So Far |
ItsNotForMeWahh- 7/15/2024, 8:52 AM
@ImBatman4realz – A person of the same name and state donated $15 to 1 organization. I’m not sure if it has yet been confirmed yet but I’m just waking up so I’ll see if there are more details. This donation was 8 months before the shooter registered as a Republican. The shooters classmates also stated that they were conservative in high school and were adamant to debate conservative view points. I certainly know liberals with firearms, I can’t say I know a single one that buys t-shirts from conservative YouTubers. That said the channel is definitely not an extremist gun channel. With the details we have right now it is murky on what their actual motives were. With the information we have so far, even if he made a donation, it still seems that he was a republican |
ImBatman4realz- 7/15/2024, 8:45 AM
@TheFinestSmack – it’s such a weird expression that Josh uses. Every time I read it, I imagine someone ripping arse |
braunermegda- 7/15/2024, 8:41 AM
man by now they should just go without the bat symbol because they clearly are not giving a damn anymore, they’re just drawing some random smudge and that’s it. I don’t like it, but if people do hope they enjoy a nice reading. |
ImBatman4realz- 7/15/2024, 8:52 AM
The artwork is strange, and why does Bruce have giant feet? It looks like a member of the Rescue Heroes went rogue and turned into a vigilante…(those of you who are old enough to remember that show/toyline will catch the reference) Meanwhile watch for more rumblings from Josh! |
The response to the leaked artwork has been mixed. Some fans are excited to see a more grounded and realistic approach to Batman, while others are skeptical about the hulking physique and the changes to the iconic Bat-symbol.
The comments section on ComicBookMovie.com is a microcosm of this divide. Some are eager to see how the new “Absolute” line will reshape the DC Universe, while others are holding onto the classic Batman, arguing that the changes are unnecessary or even “awful.”
